In his formulation of psychosynthesis, Assagioli intentionally created an open system – a framework upon which counsellors and psychotherapists could further elaborate. Rather than handing down a finished product or doctrine, he offered them his vision and encouragement to explore a large number of avenues and methods. Consequently it is the responsibility of the pyschosynthesis counsellor to choose appropriate therapeutic techniques. The work may be on any level – physical, emotional, mental, imaginative – and the counsellor must master all these modes in order to have a wide range of techniques available.
