Lesson Study
Lesson study

Lesson study is an approach to professional development in which groups of teachers engage in systematic study of their practice. It is a job-embedded, teacher-driven approach to improving instructional practice. While it uses a lesson as its focus, the significance of lesson study is the ongoing process of researching and studying practice rather than the production of a single lesson. Lesson study has the potential to improve teachers' knowledge of content, knowledge of curriculum, knowledge of pedagogy, and knowledge of students. Lesson study is a way of creating a culture of commitment to continued professional growth. It provides a collaborative forum in which teachers can meaningfully connect theory to practice.
