This chapter explores the social and organizational changes management may encounter during the passage from modernism to postmodernism. I define postmodernism as a form of society or social era and as a style of cultural production and focus on the “era” approach to postmodernism. Thus, I review the history and features of traditionalism and modernism as a basis for understanding the features of postmodern organizations and society. Next, important features of postmodernism as a social form are discussed. The chapter concludes by reviewingcontours of the postmodern organization and theoretical frameworks that may provide insights into postmodern management and society.
