Introduction
In the previous chapter, we presented the broader social-structural and political-cultural bases of politics as they shape current political structures and processes. Here, we have to define more precisely the notion of regime, in connection with state as discussed in the Introduction and with political system as discussed in the previous chapter. We then present an analysis of democracies from a static perspective and in the next chapter from a dynamic one. Chapter 7 will be devoted to the non-democratic regimes.
