The inclusion of pupils with special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities in mainstream schools has increasingly become a central feature of national and international policy towards education in recent years. In the context ofphysical education (PE) in England, this commitment to inclusion’ manifested itself in the form of a statutory statement in the revised National Curriculum for Physical Education (NCPE) 2000 (Department for Education and Employment/Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (DfEE/QCA), 1999).
