Using a framework based in behavioral epidemiology and health psychology, in this book we have summarized research related to physical activity and health. We have attempted to show how the behavior of physical activity is related to health and how an interdisciplinary, behavioral medicine approach can lead to improvements in health through effective physical activity interventions. Consistent with a behavioral medicine perspective, the studies have been taken from several scientific disciplines, including exercise physiology, epidemiology, public health, medicine, and health psychology. All of these disciplines have important contributions to make, but no one discipline has all of the answers.
