In this chapter, the process for defining populations requiring health care services is described, with a detailed section on further defining those populations for purposes of planning delivery of nursing services. Building on the variables identified in Chapter 2 as being of concern to nursing, a structure for categorizing information in relation to the nursing perspective of populations is provided, with examples of use of the structure.
