Nursing provides services within a multicultural community to people at all stages of development and in all health states. The particular service that nursing provides is an assisting one. That assistance can be offered through episodic or continual contact. What is accomplished directly or indirectly through nursing is an enhanced capacity for self-care by individuals, families and communities of persons so that they can achieve and maintain optimal health.
