This chapter examines sociological theory in the mid-twentieth century. Accounts of sociological theory during this era present a fragmented picture, identifying a diverse range of sociologists within or on the margins of sociology. Although some theorists were identified as dominant theorists during this era, in accounts of this period there appears to be no clear-cut canon as such.
