Designing and implementing a mentoring scheme: University of worcester SureStart-recognised sector-endorsed foundation degree in early years
JanetMurray

This chapter identifies the principles underpinning the design of a mentoring scheme for early years practitioners seeking Senior Practitioner status through the SureStart-recognised Sector-endorsed Foundation Degree in Early Years (FdA EY). A case study of the mentoring scheme implemented by the University of Worcester (UW) is discussed, with issues of application and effectiveness drawn out for readers to consider and relate to their own context.

UW delivers the foundation degree through five partner colleges of further education and, since 2005, in a children's centre in collaboration with an Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP).
