Triple Jeopardy: Immigrant Women of Color in the Labor Force
This chapter describes the complex reality of workplace diversity from the perspective of minorities with three distinct cultural identities based on race, gender, and ethnicity. The chapter explores how these three dimensions of diversity operate in combination to create a “triple jeopardy” in organizations for such individuals. By describing the workplace experiences of a small sample of immigrant women of color, the chapter demonstrates the combined impact of these three cultural identities on individual career outcomes, including job satisfaction, organizational commitment, compensation, and promotion rates.
