These three chapters focus on the theoretical perspectives underpinning the construction of a curriculum and the management structures that support it. In Chapter 1 Jacky Lumby discusses the factors which influence the development of a curriculum and the interaction this has with the nature of learning and teaching. Neil Burton and David Middlewood in Chapter 2 then take these concepts of learning and teaching and explore the paradigms of curriculum organisation that develop as a result of adopting a particular view of the nature and purpose of the curriculum.
