New technology has a certain appeal, and sometimes investing in it is motivated by “techno-lust”—an attraction to its “bells and whistles” that precludes rational analysis of whether or not the technology will help the organization meet its performance and business objectives. Needs analysis and readiness for change analysis are two distinct facets of the needs assessment life cycle stage described in Chapter 3.
