Management of technology (MOT) is a field of study dedicated to the planning and ongoing assessment of technology in organizations, incorporating the innovation, development, and engineering processes into one discipline. Managing Technological Change: A Strategic Partnership Approach fills a critical void by presenting an integrative, strategic, and participative approach to technology management from a multi-industry perspective.

An Integrative Framework for Technological Change

An integrative framework for technological change

When technology introduction is planned, it progresses along a continuum of distinctive stages. The totality of this process can be thought of as a technology adoption life cycle. As used most commonly in the engineering and business literature, the term “life cycle” refers to evolutionary stages of product development. In their simplest form, these stages are “introductory,” “growth,” and “maturity” (Moore & Tushman, 1982, as cited in Banbury, 1999). These broad categories obscure the many steps and people it takes to move a new product from conception to design to engineering to prototype to production and finally to market or customer.

Other life cycle models refer to technology project progression (Cardullo, 1999). Ford and Ryan ...
