This chapter examines the relationships between good work group performance and information technologies in the light of current work group theory and research. I focus on information technologies for two reasons: firstly, their roles in effecting group performance are claimed to be of increasing importance, yet they are little understood; and secondly, by focusing on the question of what are the relationships between good work group performance and information technology, it becomes apparent that the answers rely on our underlying assumptions about communication within the organizations in which these work groups are partially embedded.
