If students aren’t interested, they won’t learn. If students aren’t paying attention, they won’t learn. If students aren’t motivated, they won’t learn. ENGAGEMENT IS EVERYTHING.

The principle of engagement is sometimes one of the hardest UDL principles for teachers to understand. Until recently, it was listed as the third principle on the UDL guideline sheet, but in the 2014 update, the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST) moved engagement to the first position.
