This closing chapter discusses implications of the theories presented in this book for teacher education and literacy research. We argue that initial teacher education needs to explore theoretical frameworks underpinning contemporary curricula in order for novice teachers to ground practice in a clear understanding of various models and that professional development for in-service (for example, practising or experienced) teachers needs to incorporate models of action research which enable engagement with such theories in the context of classrooms. We close the chapter with a discussion of the implications for future research and policy.
