What is sexual desire? How is it different from other sexual responses? What causes sexual desire? What variables influence its expression and experience? Is sexual desire related to the feeling of being in love? If so, how? Our purpose in writing this volume was to provide some answers to these questions by considering the history and theories of sexual desire and by reviewing the empirical research on this fascinating life experience. In the process of conducting our investigations and writing our conclusions, however, we realized that there remains much to be learned about sexual desire.
