In Search of Paradise Lost: The Aftermath of Intimate Violence
The word aftermath is an insider's term used to delineate the time and situation immediately following violent events. Besides the chronological setting, the term refers to a qualitative modification in the experience of violence and in the expectation as to what is to follow. It further delineates at least an intermission in which the partners can begin their negotiations and reprocess their past (i.e., violent events) and future (i.e., nonviolent) life.
