The whole idea of ‘health’ and ‘being healthy’ is difficult for young children to understand. Many will equate it to being well or whole, to being not ill or to being strong. We need help children to try to understand what the words ‘health’ and ‘a healthy lifestyle’ mean and that there are many healthy lifestyles for different people.

One approach is to ask the children to draw a healthy person and to draw the things they need to help to live a healthy lifestyle.
