Introduction

This chapter examines the way in which staff development within a school or college is most effective when it is placed within the context of an organisation which is focused primarily on learning. The development and learning of the people and thereby the organisation, ideally, became inextricably integrated. While accepting that this may not be a realistic aspiration for places where resources, including human resources, are scarce, it is argued that staff learning how to learn is crucial for achieving the aims of educational organisations.
