Initial teacher training – the CPD needs and benefits

There are many benefits to be gained by schools and their staff from engaging in initial teacher training, particularly its effect as a catalyst for continuing professional development. It can help the development of reflection and learning-centred communities with wider links to higher education and other schools.

Different Ways to Be Involved

Many schools are involved in initial teacher training in a variety of different ways. There are three main routes to qualified teacher status, which are compared in Figure 9.1:
