Emergent leaders and middle managers

This chapter looks at the training and development needs of emergent leaders, subject leaders and middle managers, and at the various ways in which they can be met. After outlining the key role that middle managers can play in teaching and learning, it draws on data to examine training and development needs. Reference is also made to the range of training programmes currently available, including the course for middle leaders from the National College for School Leadership, entitled ‘Leading from the Middle’.
