Arts tourism refers to travel which is motivated by an interest in the performing and visual arts including opera, ballet, music and arts festivals.
Arts tourism is a sub-set of cultural tourism and heritage tourism and is also closely related to special interest tourism. The arts have long been a key motivator for travel with the early Grand Tourists, from the sixteenth century onwards, being keen to experience the theatres, opera houses, concert halls and festivals that Europe had to offer.
