Continuous Professional Development
Continuous professional development (CPD) is the name for the schemes run by a variety of professional institutes, including the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR). In the USA the Public Relations Society of America's (PRSA) scheme is simply called Professional Development. CIPR's CPD scheme is branded as ‘Developing Excellence’. CPD schemes are not qualifications. Most, including Developing Excellence, require keeping a record of developmental activities such as attending training events and involvement with professional institutes. In general, institutes without compulsory CPD find that enrollment of around 25 per cent is normal. In some professional institutes CPD enrollment is compulsory.
