MRP is the process through which operations managers plan for purchase and work orders in order to feed a factory with parts and materials to attain the production objectives set down in the master production plan.

Product Breakdown Structure

The product breakdown structure is a specification of the different parts and components used to assemble a finished product. Figure 42 shows an example of a product breakdown structure for a cold frame used by gardeners. A product breakdown structure is usually based on a hierarchical structure.
