The Origin and Development of Six Sigma

Six sigma was developed at Motorola in 1986 on the back of several years of using various quality management frameworks which were then popular: total quality control, zero defects, the Taguchi method, etc. Today, proponents of six sigma describe it as a business improvement strategy rather than as a quality management methodology.
