Improving the Quality of Expository Writing
Writing is a complex process that involves most of the thinking skills and certainly the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation skills. First, our students must acquire knowledge through reading, listening, viewing, or doing; in addition, they must understand well the knowledge they collect. Then, they must analyze that knowledge to determine what is relevant to the paper they are to write. Often, they must also analyze cause and effect, break something down into its parts, or compare and contrast two or more things. Then, they have to synthesize that knowledge. Finally, they must use an evaluation tool to evaluate and edit their written product.
