This chapter focuses on recent initiatives in both the primary and secondary sectors, which make links between literacy and modern foreign languages (MFL) in line with changes in current National Curriculum documentation, which now encourages links between subjects. It seeks thereby to demonstrate the contribution that the learning of a foreign language in primary school, at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, can make to the overall literacy of young children.
