Teachers and student teachers do not approach literacy in some neutral mode. This chapter probes the thoughts, feelings and attitudes of student teachers from both phases as they become ‘teachers of reading’. We learn about the differences between the phases and also about their shared perceptions. Most importantly we are able to see how they have been to some extent ‘formed’ by their backgrounds, education and training and how this provides real strengths but also some potential blind spots.
