Introduction

A great deal of thought and attention has to be given to the ethics of all research studies and this should not be any less rigorous just because it is children who are carrying out the research. Ethical considerations are not a ‘bolt-on’ option; they are an integral core of each stage from initial design through to dissemination. Sometimes, the topic of the research itself can give rise to ethical sensitivity.
