Introduction
In the last chapter we looked at some techniques for coding and analysing qualitative data. These were approaches which can be used with descriptive data, i.e. data in the form of words. Researchers also collect data in the form of numbers – quantitative data – so we need to have some basic understanding of how we might go about analysing numerical data. Some descriptive data can also be attributed a numerical score in order to facilitate quantitative analysis.
