Definition: What is Tier 2 and Tier 3 Intervention?
Tier 2 intervention is the instructional program that provides additional support to students who struggle in the general education, or Tier 1, setting. In Tier 2, students who are not successful in Tier 1 receive targeted intervention(s), and their progress in these interventions is monitored for effectiveness (Mellard & Johnson, 2008). For some students, Tier 2 interventions will not be sufficient to successfully meet their needs, and they will require intervention that is more intense in its intensity, focus, and/or duration.
