Advice for teachers on career options is rare, yet it is so important as a way to develop. I'm guessing that most of the people reading this book help new teachers develop, and work with many trainees. In 2004–5 there were 38,270 of them, including 4530 on employment-based routes (DfES, 2005a) who may need guidance on applying for their all-important first job.
