Introduction

The three dimensions of the Next Generation Science Standards offer insight into how to think about inquiry teaching and learning science in grades K–5. It is within the context of the eight practices in Dimension I of the NGSS that they become meaningful and complement the disciplinary core ideas found in Dimension 3. It is the crosscutting concepts in Dimension 2 that serve as a bridge for connecting them. These three dimensions serve as a template for planning inquiry lessons using the 5Es.
