The Four Discourses of Leadership
This chapter offers a brief overview of the four dominant leadership discourses that are used in the insider-leadership discourse analysis. These discourses emerged at different times over the past century in the West, and are all mainstream leadership discourses that remain present today: Controller leadership, Therapist leadership, Messiah leadership and Eco-leadership (Western, 2008, 2013). Figure 22.1 shows when each discourse emerged and dominated, and how each still exists today.
An overview
