Reliance Jio is a telecommunications company that is part of Reliance Industries Limited, India's largest publicly traded company by market capitalization. After Jio entered the telecommunications market in December 2015, it adopted a highly aggressive strategy of customer acquisition. Its ‘Welcome Offer’ was followed by a ‘Happy New Year Offer’ which provided free voice calls, video calling, messaging and data. This of course sparked counter-offers by Airtel which was the leader in the Indian telecommunications market at that point.
