This essay analyzes the complex and contradictory Amazon sociogeographical dynamics, by highlighting the many existing territorialities there from which different possibilities for the future of the region emanate. The distinct geographic scales involved (local, regional, national and international/global) and tensions/contradictions/conflicts that are being taken up by the social groups are considered. Those that derive from the new phase of regional reconfiguration through infrastructure megaprojects are emphasized.
