In recent years there has been a growing move to replace or complement the traditional ‘discrimination, equal opportunity, positive action’ paradigm in addressing issues of employment equity with an emerging ‘managing diversity’ paradigm. This has happened particularly in the United States in the 1980s, but also in Western Europe in the 1990s.
