Introduction
Introduction

Teaching is at times like being set adrift on white water. Just as you think it is all going to be plain sailing another waterfall appears and you have to take a deep breath and be ready to change course. When the National Literacy Strategy first came into place some teachers felt constricted by the tight format, others welcomed the structure and a whole group of teachers have never thought about how to teach in any other way. Recently the agenda has changed again with the emphasis now on creativity in the classroom and children making links with different areas of learning. Literacy is a key skill needed across the curriculum and teachers are now being prompted to think outside the literacy hour.
