This chapter will explore issues relating to both the decision-making process and the implementation of any subsequent decision. Consideration will be given to a simple rule of thumb to be used when making a decision on whether to act or not. Next, some of the challenges in identifying some of the costs associated with a decision, and how educational research has paid insufficient attention to side-effects, will be discussed.
