This chapter will look at ways of appraising different sources of evidence. First, the chapter will look at some of the difficulties associated with using ‘organisational facts’ to inform decision-making. Second, consideration will be given to the problems associated with appraising stakeholder feedback: including the difficulties associated with empathy; the ladder of inference; how to know when you are receiving good advice; and, what to do when you disagree with others. Finally, the chapter will examine both experience and intuition, and consider the limits of expertise and whether intuition can be used as a trusted source of evidence.
