Sealink British Ferries were bought by the Scandinavian company Stena Line in late 1990. Prior to this acquisition Sealink British Ferries had been privately owned by the Sea Containers Group, for six years. Before this, the company was owned by British Rail throughout the 1970s and early 1980s.
