It is a truism to claim that women are disadvantaged in their working lives. The phenomena of vertical segregation and horizontal segregation are noted even in mainstream texts on the workplace (Mullins, 1996: 160–9). The rigours of women's daily working lives are also well documented - for example, the literature on sexual harassment, or material analysing women's managerial experiences.
