Following an encounter with an ex-prisoner in his undergraduate Sociology of Education class, Gustav decides to embark on a new research direction to explore the educational opportunities provided within juvenile justice facilities. Gustav has previously conducted research on the educational experiences of young refugees and on students’ sexualities. He wants his research to empower and give voice to marginalized groups.
