It is excellent to have a giant's strength but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant.
The most common whinge heard from students by supply teachers is the ‘teacher comparison whinge’: ‘Mr/Ms Smith lets us chew gum; eat in class, read comics (when we've done our work); sit wherever we like; choose what work we want, dance on the tables …’ Arguing about the relative truthfulness of any of this is a waste of time as it is overly defending what you – as supply teacher – will do in comparison to their probable ‘fiction’, or at least their heavily ‘doctored’ version of normal reality in their classroom.
