Who now reads Marx? After the decade of leveraged buyouts, global concern for the ozone layer and above all the collapse of communism in ‘eastern Europe’, is there any writer now more dated, more of a ‘dinosaur’, than Marx? The 1980s have surely sealed Marx's coffin for good and confined him and his monstrous works to the dustbin of history. Even if we are not at the end of history, we are surely at the end of his history, based as it was on the analysis of the unfolding contradictions of industrial capitalism.
