This chapter considers working in partnership with parents, carers and families and the key role parents have in their child’s early education. Effective partnership practice is defined and challenges in developing equality in partnership working examined. Research on effective home learning environments for children’s learning and educational achievement is discussed. The issue of transition from home to school, including facilitating a smooth transitional process for parents and children, is explored. Examples of effective partnership practice with parents are given, with reflective questions to prompt reflective thinking. The term ‘parents’ is used for ‘parents, carers and families’ throughout the chapter.
