As we developed the short cases in Chapter 1 of schools and districts doubling performance, we and many of our colleagues began to realize the striking similarities of the processes across the cases. These hunches were confirmed by reading other case studies of dramatically improving schools and districts (Chenoweth, 2007; Childress, Elmore, Grossman, & Johnson, 2007; Supovitz, 2006).
