For the past few years, much discussion has taken place around the topics of diversity and related subjects such as affirmative action, understanding differences, valuing differences, understanding diversity, valuing diversity, pluralism, multiculturalism, and inclusion. All of these subjects and others are often considered under the umbrella of diversity. Unfortunately, because little time has been devoted to understanding diversity per se (independent of workforce issues), the ongoing discussions have positioned diversity as akin to affirmative action and have caused a substantial amount of confusion.1
